El Marques De Antigua – Review

Posted by Rishiray on December 27, 2012

Good morning from Antigua, Guatemala. Our mission for the next week, will be to narrow down our list of recommended business, sights and accommodations for our guests in July 2013.

Our first place to stay and review is El Marques De Antigua. We found the location a little inconvenient, but the property is quite nice. I’ve listed the basic information lower down. We had reserved one of the larger Dom Pedro suites (confirmed in the reservation) but when we checked in, we were assigned to one of the smaller suite. After a long day of travelling from Toronto, I wasn’t the happiest camper around, but in the end, we figured it out.

Overall thoughts

This is a nice set of suites and personally rates a decent 6 for me.

Staff attitude, conduct and support The staff manager at night was particularly fluent in English at all. However, we had a native Guatemalan with us, so the language barrier was non-existent. In the end, the reservation we made for one of the Dom Pedro suites wasn’t fulfilled, even though we had a confirmation for the room from the suite owner. So this rates as a strong negative for me.
Hotel Cleanliness Everything was in order and the suites were all clean
Location Although the website says that it’s 4 blocks away from the center, this location isn’t as convenient as you might think. If you going for drinks at night, I would definitely recommend one of the small
Would I return? I would recommend this our wedding guests, especially the more self sufficient ones. Would I return personally? I don’t see why not … although there are lots of other places that are closer to the center.
Family friendly?
this place is very family friendly, especially as all suites have a washer/dryer, full kitchen
Good for business travellers?
This is not a business hotel … Antigua, Guatemala isn’t where you come to do business.
Value for price paid?
There are a lot of cheaper accommodations than El Marques in Antigua, but I was happy with the quality of the accommodations. There was no breakfast unlike many other hotels in the area, but you’re paying for a self contained suite. The idea is that you have a full kitchen to make your own breakfast. However, if you’re coming to Antigua and you’re super price sensitive, then I would put this at a recommend.
